Announcement of the First U Hotel India in Varanasi
U Grand Varanasi will be a member of U Hotels & Resorts group. The ground breaking ceremony was held recently with blessing and press conference for all the local media. The construction of The U Grand Varanasi will commence as of October 2009 and expect to complete by third quarter of 2011. The total cost of the project is estimated at USD 12 million. It will be the trend setter hotel and market leader in the destination. U Grand Varanasi will be the first hotel development of KBJ Group Mumbai and there are four more hotels in the plan to develop within three years.
The U Grand Varanasi will be another unique U Hotel that demonstrates the quality of product and services combining the heritage of its location. Varanasi often referred to as Benares, the oldest living city in the world. It is one of the major pilgrimage sites of India located on the holy River Ganges and a major tourist attraction with world renowned Ghats and Temples. For over two thousand years, Varanasi has been a great centre of learning and civilization.
This historic location will create the best positioning that aligns with the brand essence of U Hotels & Resorts for a 117 room Hotel that will provide superb facilities and unique concept of U's services. Unique product features will include 700 square meters of event space, 3 restaurants and bars, a spa, fitness centre as well as a historic library. The U Grand Varanasi Hotel will be located only 2 kms from the airport and 10 kms from the main city's sacred aura, secular vitality, palaces and temples.
In addition, with the new International Airport terminal well under development and scheduled to open in late 2010, this will open direct international air links for travellers wishing to explore this cultural and spiritual centre.
AHS is currently concluding an additional 8 hotels in India which plans to announce later this year together with the opening of Absolute Hotel Services India office in Mumbai.
